This is the wrong forum for a 2016 Super Duty but I believe you can update to Sync 3 using a USB drive and then Android Auto will work. Check out the previous generation forum for details on that.
The new updates are far from a copy of Apple Carplay. The only commonality I see is the list of apps in one screen similar to a phone rather than the grouping that they had in the past. There are a ton of updates that are unique, especially the way the apps can share parts of the screen at the same time but also the notifications center, the way it remembers your previous music, etc. That said, hopefully Apple & Google can get some active back & forth on features, good for all of us.
BTW, Google Maps has also done some updates in the last week that enhance its navigation behavior, independent from Android Auto itself. You'll see new buttons while navigating in Android Auto. Nothing like an automatic upgrade.
Negative.
You’ll need to convert the entire system to SYNC 3 for Android Auto or Apple CarPlay to work.
OEM for me too but AA will appear the same on an aftermarket unit.
The newer aftermarket units will even have wireless Android Auto. Super handy for short trips, but would kill your battery quick on any trip over a short hop.

Correct but the AA GUI is the same regardless of platform or connection type.
Rod here, just got a 2019 F350 dually Lariat Ultimate. Finally got the Android Auto downloaded to phone but having trouble getting it to come up on the truck screen. Can any of you help me? TIA
