i am trying to fix the rear pump on my 95 f-150 and i don't know which is more rusted the bolts holding the tank on or the bolts holding the bed on. i took me all day to get the spare tire out. it has been on there since 95. i guess i will buy another can of pb blaster as it is safer than a torch.
Either way its going to be a pita, I usually drop the tanks, i think the last time since I was doing both pumps I took the bed off.
Just be warned have an air impact handy if your going to do it, it will save a lot of time and frustration.
Just replace my rear pump last week.
I have had my bed off before so I had replace all of the bed bolts with hex head bolts so getting the bolts out was easy with my electric impact wrench.
Used my bob cat with forks to left it off with large "C" clamps.
The hardest part was disconnecting the fuel fill tubes from the bed.
Another option is to cut an access hatch in the bed above the fuel tank so you can service the tank without taking the bed off or dropping the tank. Google "Minute Masters" on You Tube as he shows what he did for his front tank. I also looked up a few other ideas on You Tube about an access hatch. I may be doing it to my truck as my front tank has stopped working and I can't get to the connectors for the fuel tank to see if it's a wiring issue or if the pump has actually failed.
I guess I got lucky, my truck was really rusty and other than all the rust falling in my eyes and ears and mouth, I didn't think it was very difficult to remove either tank.

Bugs me when people do this kind of stuff. For me, it’s no different than doing a shoddy wiring job that could burn the truck down. Spray some rust penetrate on the strap bolts for a day or two. Worst case is you destroy the straps and have to replace them.
