Ok, I read the posts and quickly decided it was nuts to remove the bed to replace the fuel tank. The carriage bolts were real good at spinning, but not unscrewing. Could have cut them off with the torch, but it would have burned the bed. Nice job Ford did putting the bolts in a spot where you can only reach them with a bent extension on the impact wrench. So I simply siphoned the fuel, cut the tank straps with a sawzall, dropped the tank down, replaced the pump, put the tank back in with new straps and bolts. It was simple and took no time at all. Talked to the Ford dealer when I got the straps and they said they only remove the bed on newer trucks. You know, before everything is rust welded together.
My strap bolts came undone easiley but i did replace the bolts with Grade 8 bolts when i put the tank back up. Now i have to do the same with the rear tank since it floats all over when it gets down to 5 gallons or less it does stay on full until then.
I did the same... replaced tank bits from underneath. Except, I liberally applied anti-sieze on the threads to avoid having to cut straps in the future.
