Mine does this once a week.. since new. my dealer can't fix it, said to keep driving it. I left it at dealer 4 weeks ago, its still there. They said waiting on more information from Ford.
It has also developed a lot of play in steering, makes it not fun to drive on the highway.
2018 f450 Platinum, no problems adaptive steering other than a hum/moan when cold.
I am NOT going to give it up, love it, and all the other tech stuff this truck has.

Well in a perfect world there would actually be great buyer support from ford (or any of the manufacturers its not just ford) but there is no way I can just leave the truck at the dealer for weeks to months until they can "get around to looking at it". So it is a safety issue. The two things any vehicle absolutely must do is steer and stop. If one of those two things is not right, catastrophic stuff can happen. All that fancy tech stuff is nice but does not really matter if you're dead or wishing you were due to horrible injury. What if the steering fails and you end up taking out a bus full of kids in a head-on at 80 mph on the highway?
If were me, I'd elevate complaint to FOMOCO consumer affairs on the basis of safety and find another dealer to take the truck in for diagnosis and warranty repair.

This is precisely why I want to delete the adaptive steering.
The batteries in my truck both tested great. The truck was only a few months old. The computer and the gear box that comprise the system are inside the steering wheel, but there are wired connections to what is similar to a rheostat that is in the steering column and provides positional feedback for the computer. Was advised by Ford service tech to NOT attempt to swap the steering wheel because the main ECU was set to look for the adaptive steering, and is tied in with ABS braking, adaptive cruise control, prolly other stuff too like fly by wire throttle etc. They said deleting AS would create other nasty problems so I left it stock.
You are not the only one with problems! I purchase a 2020 limited drove it twice and I have the same problem as you. This is a serious safety problem and Ford should be repairing or replacing defective parts. They have discontinued the option for 2024. However, they claim its a supply shortage.

Maybe I am the only one in the entire US who has a superduty who is seeing the adaptive steering do this. Fair enough. Maybe no one else could give a $hiit. OK that's cool. BUT when someone is driving down the road and the steering wheel tilts hard one way or the other it is kind of a shock. I ordered a replacement Lariat steering wheel which does not include adaptive anything, so evidently it is absolutely true that the Lariat Ultimate package can be had without adaptive cruise and steering. I do intend to remove the adaptive steering components and wheel and replace with the one I ordered. Apologies for posting; I erroneously assumed that others with these features MIGHT be at least mildly interested in radical aberrations to the steering. No further posts forthcoming. Out.

As you can see, the concern you and the OP experienced is no secret and is outlined in the owners manual. It won't fix itself. Take it to Ford so that they can fix (replace) it. It will be out of your pocket unless still under warranty.
