Hello all just joined the forum tonight so I'm sure I'll ask some stupid questions some of you have answered a time or two before. My 15 year old son just bought a 96 f250 powerstroke automatic with high miles for his first truck. I have a 01 2500 dodge cummins 5spd that a friend rolled that I now have the engine, frame, and running gear. Has anybody here ever put a f250 body on a dodge frame? Just curious if I would be money and time ahead moving body mounts and such over to the dodge over doing a full conversion and still not having a straight axle truck.
I'm not trying to stop you, but either way it's a BIG project. I know there are people who can knock something like that out in a month, but there are also a lot who will be six years into it before they are looking to unload the mish-mash of parts that they realize they will never get put together. The fact that you have to ask about it says you aren't in the first group (they know what it'll take without asking on-line). So since you're with the rest of us, make your best guess how long the project should take, then multiply by 4. If you can stay committed to it you probably won't be too far off that way. If it was me I'd plan around 2 years for it either way (and it would've taken me a lot longer back when I had kids at home).
On the plus side, if you and your son can work on it together that could be a great way to spend a couple of years! My dad and I started rebuilding a 1929 Ford Model A when I was about 10. We had a lot of fun with that! Unfortunately I never got my sons interested in doing a project like that.
