Hey guys, I just bought a 2018 f150 3.5 ecoboost. I was apprehensive about it but thought I would embrace the future... LOL It is an amazing truck, superb driver and fuel mileage is awesome. The power really surprised me. I'm saying all that to make the point that I like the truck. But... I was going on a day trip to the Texas hill country today and noticed the trans temp was 228 degrees with cruise set at 75 mph. That is a little warm for an unloaded truck. Anybody else have this happen? I called my local dealer and he said not to worry about it, the truck would tell me if it got too hot. I am not comfortable with that. So? Is 228 degrees normal. My friend the internet says it is not. LOL I am gonna pursue the trans cooler asap anyway. But I really want to know if the dealer rep lied to me to get me off the phone cause he was busy... LOL
At 75mph in the heat going up and down hills I see 221 in my 18. I see 204 as normal operating temp in daily driving and sometimes 230 towing heavy in the heat. Let us know if you add a auxiliary cooler, you would be the first.
Thanks for the reply. I will keep you posted on the progress. I was expecting the same temp as the engine I guess... or close to that temp. I do feel a little better now. It is pretty hot outside too. I still think 228 is too high for an empty truck not towing anything.
I don't have the time to look for Mark's posts on the topic, but modern transmissions are designed to run quite hot, far hotter than most of us are used to. Anyone have the specs around?
I climb a hill (about 2700 feet) daily, and I don't recall ever seeing anything above 210. This is a 2015 withthe 6 speed though. I have no idea what normal is for the 10 speed. Is there an analog gauge? Is it mid-range, or is it at the high end?
Just remember if you try to add a cooler you will have to run lines all the way to the front of the truck. The transmission fluid lines do not go to the front of the truck.

So what you're saying is that you have data that isn't at all relevant to this thread.

Adding another cooler probably won't lower the temperature very much, if at all. The temperatures are hotter because there is a thermostat in the transmission that keeps it that warm. It's supposed to do that. The only thing you will accomplish if you can get it cooler is that it will operate less efficiently and you will burn more fuel.
It is a digital gauge, so there isn't a visible range. Everybody I talk to in town says that 228 is too high for an unloaded truck. I'm still working on the cooler, it seems that is not a common request. LOL

Well? that may explain why I'm not getting much info on a cooler. It seems the only truck with a factory cooler is the Raptor...
