Well looks like I’m keeping my f350 since I haven’t heard from the guy who I was going to trade with. Truck has a 352 with broken exhaust manifold studs. So about to order new heads. My engine is currently painted and I doubt I’ll be able to match it. Any ideas on a color that u all think would look good with the blue?
Also, I noticed some engines appeared to have red or gold valve covers from the factory. Did that signified anything specific like year or what the engine might have been put in?
While I’m replacing the heads should I look into headers or other upgrades like possibly a intake? My concern is will I really gain anything because of my gearing? I have a np435 trans and 4:83 gears...
'66 and up, all FE: Ford blue, pretty much as you have pictured. (there's two shades out there)
Blue and chrome as you picture looks good.
'65 in cars was black block on all motors, with different colored valve covers and air cleaners, with a not so secret code so you could tell displacement by those colors. 352 was Gold valve covers and air cleaner in '65, not sure about other years. I can look up the old thread on this tomorrow.
Headers--always welcome on the FE. Sanderson shorties or block huggers may be the best, again, there are a bunch of guys who have posted on it, I will try to find you a thread or two tomorrow.
Or just go up to search, advanced search, put in "sanderson", and select either the FE forum or the forum for your year truck.
Intake upgrade would take you to a 4bbl intake, there's a ton on that. Short answer "Performer" (NOT Performer RPM unless you are going for a motor that makes more RPM) OR stock iron "S" or "T" manifolds. Or stock iron pretty much any FE non-406/427 hi rise etc manifold.
Thank u. I was trying to find out if it is worth doing those mods to my engine with the gearing I have or would it be a waste of money. My gearing is 4.83 with the Np 435. So I’m turning close to 6k rpms doing 60 according to my ratio calculator. So I’m guessing that’s pushing the engine way to hard...
Dark Ford blue looks much better than what you have now. Not sure why you'd need to "upgrade" to a 4 bbl on an otherwise stock 352 in an F350. The 2 bbl will deliver everything it needs. Headers though would be a plus on any FE over the stock box manifolds.
