I am not aware of anyone that re-packs wheel bearings on a given schedule (every xx,xxx miles, for example). With even the best quality wheel bearing being not expensive at all, you are probably better off replacing them once they start making a little noise. Every wheel bearing I have ever replaced had close to 100,000 miles on it.
I check my wheel bearings at every tire rotation. Recently did a rear brake job and even though the bearings weren’t making any noise I replaced them anyway, since I was replacing rear rotors, parking brake components, etc.
I have a 2011 F-350 crew cab drw pickup. How often should the wheel bearings be checked and repacked?
If you have a 2wd drw I would repack the front bearings every 50K, the rears are lubed with the rear end grease and should last the life of the truck or the rear end. If you do it yourself the dust caps on a 2wd DRW are a bear to get off and I haven't found a tool to get them off easily, the rest I sraight foword but the hud rotor assy is heavy so be prepared.
Worth mentioning if it's a 4WD truck there is no checking or re-packing the front bearings. They have unitized bearing/hubs that simply get replaced when the bearings begin to fail.
Just had one replaced in 2012 2wd about 140k, drove it through driving wind and rain from ND to IA, parked it for several weeks and felt rumble next time I used it. Have 78 F150 one bearing has almost 300k on it other side died after driving in deep water. I think the seals will die from age and let dirt and water in.
