Can bad wheel bearings make a whinig/whurring sound when they go bad? I have that sound in my front end. The truck has 130000 on it. My autohubs did lock on me during a recent 150 mile trip, they've been replaced by Warn manuals. Could that have caused something to make this new noise?
Did you lube the new hubs up before you installed them? You can jack the front end up and check for play in the wheel bearings by just push/pulling on the top of the tire.
yes they can make that type of noise but cookie that isn't always an indicator my left bearing just went out totally last nightbut is still tight to rock the wheel but is also almost froze up.

True. When the little spindle bearing or the inner bearing goes it may not have any play in the wheel, I have never seen an outer wheel bearing fail that didn't allow some slop.
In the old days you could just repack them and tighten the spindle nut up to make tham last a while longer, but not anymore . Now it's $300 for a new unitized bearing assembly.
I had 80k on the first one, and 85k on this one I understand I have done quite well getting that many miles on mine, especially since it has a 7.3 in it which is supposed to reduce the time on them.
who has the best price on spindles? i need left side. Are the ones from auto zone, $376 priced ok? their brand is timken. early 99 psd single rear wheels. 4 wheel abs.
thanks
You know, ORU makes a kit (albeit WAY overpriced, but what from ORU isn't?) to eliminate the unit hub bearings and install a live spindle and 'normal' bearings that hold up to weight/large tires, etc. Good thing Ford didn't downgrade to unit hub bearings before 1999!

Spindles for the front? If it's a SD you don't have any. Rear, yeah. I guess I don't know what axle you're referring to. If you do have live spindle fronts, I think that $376 is a bit overpriced...I think that ITP (Inland Truck Parts) has them for less.

I don't know about online although if you watch I have seen some guy selling them on ebay for 200 once in awhile, and don't worry about bieng inferior parts there is only on factory in the world that makes them, and it's timken. $376 is a lot less than the list of $540, but I got Napa to run them through the account of a "master bearing installer" their words for someone tha buys a lot of bearings, and gets the best discount, they can do this, and still make it a cash sale anyway mine cost $272
