I know this is probably been discussed a million times over. But I can’t find my answer as of yet.
I have a 2011 f250 with the 6.7. Well it has 170k on it and I have owned it for roughly 6k of those miles. When I bought the truck I did a oil change and used the rotella t6. And now the information screen is telling me to change the oil already. I haven’t towed anything yet, it is lifted with 35” tires. Not sure if it’s putting a big load on the engine or not. I drive roughly 30-35 miles to and from work and about 5 of those miles are highway and the remainder is around 40mph.
My question is, is this normal? Am I getting to much fuel in the oil?
Or is this normal mileage to see in regards to oil changes?
Many input would be appreciated.
The information screen, and truck, doesn't actually know the quality of the oil in the engine. It is just a generic oil reminder that factors in driving habits to come up with your oil change interval. I change mine every 5000 miles.
Ok, I wasn’t to sure about it all. My manual says to watch the computer and do as it says. Cause it’s “smart” or something. I reckon I’ll go ahead and change my oil this evening.
If you reset the oil life monitor then you should change it. It monitors certain engine parameters like RPM and temps and all that to determine when it should be changed. It usually goes off around 7k miles. Most people on here change their synthetic oil at 5k because of fuel dilution and the regens and all that.
It's smarter than your average oil reminder. Is does a good job factoring in workload, driving conditions and habits. But it like I said it doesn't actually test the oil.
If you want to know the condition of your oil, I recommend sending in an oil sample to Blackstone laboratories for analysis. Then you know how long you can go between changes.
Like I said, for fun. I've been running T6 and PBE for the last 5 or 6 changes (5k intervals) and I just wanted to try something different out of boredom. Got a very slight "typewriter tick" on the first startup but after a couple of miles (5 or so) I can't hear it anymore.

i hear allot of people talk about this typewriter tick/click. And I honestly don’t think I have ever heard it. Or maybe I am hearing it and I don’t realize that’s what it is. Haha.
