Ford 550 2007
just purchased a 550 6.0 for my company. I’ve only owned the 6.7 so this engine is new to me. The truck has been bullet proofed. After purchase the truck was overheating the engine temp went way up and found out that it was the rad fan not working. I replaced it the engine temp hasn’t shown overheating and seems to be running fine.
My questions:
-after driving for about an hour the engine is crazy hot under the hood. Engine temp gage shows normal but it just seems way to hot. Is this normal for the 6.0.
-when I accelerate and maintain the turbo boost at around 20psi, the rpms of the truck start fluttering. They drop a bit then rise a bit then drop all while accelerating
any experienced advise would be a huge help as I am new to these engines.
Thanks
You can download a smartphone app and get an ELM327 OBDII adapter. I like the BAFX brand. Typically you need a WiFi adapter for i-phones and Bluetooth for Android, although I understand that that is changing. The apps most people use are Torque Pro or ForScan Lite. ForScan is better at reading codes. They both read engine data.
The first thing to do with engine data will be to evaluate the ACTUAL oil and coolant temp values. Can you tell us what coolant the engine is using? Also, what is the coolant level in the degas bottle? Lastly does the coolant in the bottle look like it should or does it look congealed or fill of solids?
Also, the term "bulletproofed" really means nothing. Can you be more specific as to what has been done?
