Anyone have pics of the 223 heat riser position when the eng is cold and when it is up to temp. Mine isn't stuck, but doesn't seem to be working like it should.
That is interesting, I haven't started mine yet, but when I had the manifold off it was frozen closed. I put some PB Blaster to it and worked it loose, and now it moves easily. The spring is not doing anything, though, has anyone found a place to get a replacement bi-metal spring for it? Might not be worth it, that might be a project for another time.

My heat riser is frozen solid. I would attempt a repair or replacement if I had a good spare manifold set for the updraft carburetor found on COE's. They are next to impossible to find.

NOS are on ebay many times, that is where I got mine. The spring should hold closed, and then once it is hot, and you rev the motor lightly, it should rotate open. Mine is new, so that is maybe why I need to rev ever so slightly, or it isn't hot enough sitting and not driving...

Mine was too, squirt some PB Blaster down on the shaft on the inside and outside, it will probably work loose. Mine moves easily now, I didn't do anything special. I'd think you'd want it stuck open, if you have to choose one...

I'm thinking it is stuck in the open position because it takes so long to warm up and settle down. I have to pull the right front wheel to get easy access to the carburetor and heat riser, and I don't want to even breathe on that manifold because replacements are almost non-existent. I'll try your tip when I get a chance.
