Need some help on this 1995 E350 I acquired about 3 months ago. 289000 miles on it. Strong, drove well until last week. Riding down the interstate and acted like it was out of fuel. Right at 1/4 tank. Filled after a pleasant walk to and from the fuel station off the interstate. Bled out the air. After starting back up, acted like it didn't want to pull. Hit throttle and it engaged in gear. Drove about another 5 miles. After a stop sign, made a left sputtered and died. Had it towed back to the house. Dropped the fuel tank, found a broken pickup screen laying in the bottom of the tank. Installed new screen, pushed tank back up. Bled the air. Runs better than it had before. Problem is transmission problem is here for the moment. No reverse, slight lunge when starting it in neutral and when you turn the key off in neutral you can feel it back off. Forward from what I can tell will go if the throttle is pressed. Issue is no real engagement in reverse and only engages drive when the throttle. No active engagement when the gears are selected. Whether the fuel issue and this is a coincidence, I don't know. Just need some help. e40d Transmission, I did the filter and fluid this evening. I did notice the MLPS was cracked on the side of the transmission so Ill have one here in the AM. Anything else I should be looking at?
I’m sorry didn’t mean to give bad info. I did the transmission filter and fluid last night after putting the fuel tank back up, I had a bad pickup in the tank which left me stranded. I got it running. When I was runnng down the highway last week at the same time the fuel was giving me issues the transmission was acting up. I change the fluid and filter last nite.
Gotta look at everything. It’s a 2wd cargo E40D. I checked the seal and made sure it was on the old and new one. It popped into place as the old one was. I am about to install the mlps.
The MLPS can't cause no reverse. There is NOTHING electrical that can cause this. From your symptoms, I think the forward clutch is damaged and can't release. That requires a rebuild to fix.
