I'd like a 500+ftlbs torque 390 but considering the fact I kill a t-18 or a np-435, a dana 60 along with the clutch, u-joints,yolk,axles, and the center holder thing every 15-25 000 miles with a stock 390 Ive dumped plans of building a real shredder.

I'd be plenty happy with 300-325 at the rear wheels through a TCI C6 and a 9".

I'd like to see some real numbers. Once again, I think a lot of you are dreaming a bit. Can anybody even show 400+ at the rear wheels? Given 20% loss for the C6 (worst case) that would be about 500lb-ft at the crank.

I'll be taking the project in soon to get rear wheel numbers. if I show 400+ I'll be happy, and I'm running 446 cubes of cash fed FE :-)

I know I am not putting 400HP to the wheels Greg. Maybe someday. If I can hit 350HP I won't be able to believe it.

I know there is no such thing as too much. I'm sure you all feel my pain. After finishing my 428cj, I swore that I didn't need anymore than that, cripes, it will smoke my 35's all day. That lasted about a year untill I decided I "had" to stroke and punch out a 460 to insane power levels. These days I'm more impressed with the hp potential of the 385 class but the FE will always be my first love AND now that I've been done with the 460 for awhile I'm thinking superchargers...

i know how it is to break stuff because too much power on my old 78 f150 i threw the spiders gears out of the housing but it was an 8.8 although they are good rear ends in my opinion you can never have too much power

power levels

Guys, my E-mails to the 390 builder keep coming back from the server- I think the address I have no longer works. But I did find, surfing around, a fellow on network 54 who is building a VERY stock appearing 428CJ mustang. With a Blue Thunder intake, big solid roller, 950holley, edelbrock heads AND a 4.250 stroker crank, he is putting down 471Hp and 476lbs-ft at the rear wheels. So I would imagine he has to be at the mid 500s at the crank. FEs are wonderful, aren't they ? DF

To the original post, I love the short distance power. Getting my old truck on the freeway and doing 120 mph aint my idea of fun. I like the throw your head back, grey out in the eyes power off of the line to about a 1/4 mile or more. Most these old trucks weren't designed for that top end speed, so I love to blow them Hemi Dodge trucks away from stop light to stop light. Got 2 in a month. he-he.

Don't get me started on a sore point. Have the rest of you guys looked at the schematics of those new "Hemi" engines? They are NOT Hemis. Gotta love marketing
