I thought I was getting a good deal. 113k miles with no rust on a 2007? Im in Illinois and I see a lot newer trucks with a bunch of rust here. It had a CEL light when I bought it and the seller said it was a glow plug. Turned out to be more than just a glow plug. I've been fixing things one area at a time. The roof had holes from a light bar that I welded shut and painted the roof. gutted the interior and cleaned out all the soot from inside the doors under the mat. Replaced #7 injector, GPs and wiring, oil pickup tubes and dummy plugs. Bunch of little stuff like fuel pressure spring, belts, hoses, batteries and added battery cables and ground wires. The engine and trans are now all good except for replacing the GPM. But hey, it's only one glow plug not working. It's still on the list.
I got the 4x4 working. I had to re solder the selector switch, replaced the 4x4 module, new locking hubs, upper and lower ball joints, and front U joints and the front end is much better.
now I want to get the cruise working for those long trips. Some say it looks like a fuse box behind the passenger kick panel. others say it's some little black box under the steering column.
The cruise light in the dash works because it turns on when you put the key in the on position. The lights in the switches in the steering wheel light up with the head lights on, so I'm assuming the buttons work.
Just personal experience here, but if it is a flood vehicle that you have, your best bet is to completely dismantle every electrical connection, clean it and re-assemble with Dielectric grease. If any module or relay isn't a sealed water tight unit, it'll have to be replaced. If the instrument panel went under water, it'll have to be pulled apart also or sent in for a rebuild.
In 1990, My brother, for whatever reason, put his F250 into the lake, the only thing showing was his tailgate. He had it pulled out 2 days later. It took us 3 months to go through that truck and get it back on the road and we still have electrical gremlins popping up every now and then. You also stated that you had holes in the roof you patched, if it's been raining when those were open, the water went to the electrical under the dash.
I can only imagine how many electronics are in a 2007, as I just replaced the fuse panel in my 2003 F350 because of rust holes around my cab lights on the roof, and I'm still dealing with minor stuff.
Good luck.
Under the hood on the passenger side is the AC box. The under-hood fuse box is on the drivers side. Most of the large wire looms are on the drivers side. If the PCM is on the passenger side firewall, I can't see it. Can someone be more specific to its location? Maybe someone can post a pic? That would be helpful.
BTW - as I go tru different areas on the truck I have been cleaning and using dielectric grease on the connectors, thanks.
ive done a bunch under the hood and behind the dash. When I fixed the roof, I took down the headliner and didn't see any water damage on it. I'm guessing the light bar was still installed when it flooded.
Don't assume the buttons in the wheel work if they have been underwater because there is a really good chance they look as bad as you 4x4 board or a fuzzy connector somewhere in line
