Hey guys, im getting a 78 f150 4x4 back together. Was rusted out everywhere, caved in roof etc, was real bad. Good ol Atlantic Canada will destroy anything!
Finding a decent box is impossible up here and shipping one is expensive, and building one with new parts is expensive and i dont really want something nice and shiny anyway. so im wondering what flatbeds look like. Want it to look tough, aggressive and be tough. Used in the bush, will haul wood, some towing and on the road too. Thinking not just the bed, but also a back rack and light bar with removable sides. Thanks
I saved this picture shared here a little while ago.
My bed is a mess too, doesn't look to bad from a distance but rusted through in many places. Looking up from under it looks like a star chart, lol. I bought patch panels but decided it wasn't worth putting them on. Was thinking of getting an OBS bed and adding dent side side sheet metal, or doing a flat bed. I really don't like how you loose the ability to just toss stuff in the back with the flat bed though. I need something with sides to hold stuff in. Anyway I've been keeping my eyes open for different options. The picture above looks pretty good. Probably could have some taller sides made, storage boxes are a really nice touch.
That one on the ted and white looks like fabbed aluminum. Not loving it. I have all the same issues with the flatbed, ut also for hauling logs the bed will be much higher which sucks. I like this one from google, big removable sides, tool box and
but that bed has to be close to 4 feet in the air
This truck was supposed to just be a beater, but it's become my favorite truck and I drive it almost every day. Everything under the sheet metal has been rebuilt or replaced. I refuse to do anything cosmetic.
This bed starts at $2400 I think, add $1000 for two tool boxes and $400 for removable sides and $400 to install on your truck included wiring lights and fuel filler. Grand total of $4200 for what you see here. Expensive yes but but to build and paint a repo box well over $4000 in parts. I just ordered bed and showed up and they did all the work.
I have no idea but it rides decent for a 3/4 ton truck lots of aluminum. I would think about the same a a standard 8ft box as mine sits. I you call them they can probably tell you they ship them too.
I like the looks and the back window protection when throwing fire wood on it. The tail light drop piece is nice, but I do not see a hitch? I see the trailer plug, but no receiver point. And can not see a goose neck ball, do you have a turn over ball on it by chance? A standard 8 ft bed is around 400 lbs + maybe a little?
I can see not see me putting a $4200 bed on a $1000 truck. What I initially paid for the 2nd ol red truck. Yes I have put a little bit more into it since then. lol Besides I already have a steel flat bed that is off my $600 1/2 ton "parts truck" and going on my F250 some day....some day when I get the rest of it done.
For those of us in the rust belt it is hard to find one worth anything, and if it is than people want more than $2k for them, and most often its attached to a truck, nothing this vintage goes for under $3k here, if they do theyre rotten.
