Loving this one from the links added at the start of this thread. Tough, aggressive looking, has tool boxes there, and different wooden sides can be built cheap to suit different needs.
now how about cost of building one of these with the back rack. Always surprising the cost of metal. Built a pretty tough ramp for my atv shed that cost $200... so can something like this be built for under $1k? Im a decent welder, but need plate cut for me to make sure its straight etc
We get them with tall sides and hydraulic lift at work. It comes out to a little over 9 grand installed... weight wise they can potentially haul more than a steel bed, being alot lighter. But they do not hold up to beatings at all. Durability is by far the biggest draw back. The steel bed can be welded 1000x times over. The aluminums can be welded but its never all that pretty, and usually doesnt last like steel at the welds... If i where doing my personal truck id just go with a steel bed, because i like to be cheap. But the fact that we do still install aluminum beds on some of our new trucks tells me they are worth it.
That truck yellow is FTE member brian1080 and he has worked his **** off to make it what it is. Front D60 swap, self painted, made the custom front bumper, put on the lift. He got the rear leafs from me....The expanded metal cage in place of a standard tool box is lockable and folds up to make more bed space AND to be a back window protection screen when chucking fire wood on it.
Dj I just sold my 79 F250 4wd SC LB with matching D60's/C-6 and NP-205. I pulled the 460 out for a buddy. I had that truck about 10 years..It was a project truck that never got off the ground.
Yeah they exist for sure. Hve a restored 77 f100 2wd long box that id love to swap ontoa 4x4 chassis. Just impossible to find up here. Nova Scotia: the home of salt! Nothing is left up here, its either dust or ridiculously expensive
Woah...I had no idea those things where that pricey. I can buy a long bed in decent shape for like $500.
If you find one with a toolbox and the tabs for the dent molding.... buy it, I'll come down with a 30pack, and buy it from you (for the original price lol, not paying $1000 for a bed lol) maybe I'll throw in a pizza if ya help me load it
After struggling with getting a reg cab in and out of my 77 long bed this weekend. Im dead set on a flat bed. I like how this one has sides so the frame isnt seen. Has tool boxes and seems easy enough to build. But lets face it... this is the bed we all want
