Grounding issue

I discovered a rub thru on my battery ground cable on the passenger side battery. I traced the wire to the block below the fuel filter and disconnected it for replacement. I found a light duty wire that was not connected to anything and the terminal lug was corroded/broken. Where does this wire go?? and how important is it?? The issue that got me looking at the cables was slow cranking.

that small wire on the battery terminal is a body ground and gets bolted to the radiator support.

What about the small wire that is down on the block end, where does that go?

on my 93 there is one that goes from the front of the block where the RH Negative Battery lead connects ... over to the frame on the RH top side.

I didn't look at the left side.

those Ground bonding wires will not cause slow cranking either.

If one of your battery cables failed you should replace all of them. You can get cheapy ones at the parts store or RockAuto. Or you can order online, here are some well rated suppliers:

https://www.custombatterycables.com/

https://www.batterycablesusa.com/?gc...SAAEgLqpvD_BwE

You best option is to go to a local electrical supply company and get cables made. Here are the ones I had done for my f250.

I make mine out of 2/0 welding cable.
There was a section of the wire that was rubbed thru and corroded green. At only 25% effective, it might cause slow cranking

yep that could cause it for sure.
I make my own cables too, a good Hydraulic Crimper is not very expensive nowadays.
2/0 is plenty large enough too, it's the same size I use, the only place I can find Terminals Locally is at Interstate Battery, the auto stores here just carry Crap Terminals and I wouldn't use those on my Volkswagen

The long negative cable is the ground on the driver's side. The shorter one with 2 pig tails is the passenger side. One eyelet goes to the radiator support, the other goes to the GP relay.
