Engine Swap

So I have a 97 F-250 HD, and ever since I've had it, it has given me problems. So I've purchased a 2001 F-250 with a 7.3 in it. Now my question is, what do I need/ have to do to swap the motor from the 01 to my 97?

The cam shaft in the 01 does not have the lobe that the mechanical fuel pump in the 97 rides on, so you will have to swap the cams. The HPOP in the 01 moves more oil than the 97, but that should be more of a benefit, I'm pretty sure that should not cause any problems. The HPOP reservoir on the 01 is different, so you will need to switch that over. The fuel bowl and fuel lines in the valley are different, as are the metal feed and return lines that run across the front of the engine and down past the oil cooler. So you will want all the seals to reinstall those parts when you move them over. The UVCH's are also different. That's all that comes to mind at the moment. I'm in the process of going in the opposite direction, moving the parts from my 03 to a 98.

A few other items just came to mind. The fuel injectors are also different. Unless your truck is a CA model (which I just learned that there was CA model for the OBS) you have single shot 120 CC injectors. The 01 has 140 CC split shot injectors. The turbo, turbo pedestal, intake manifold, and intake plenums are also different.

As I'm typing this, I think it would be easier to list the items that do not need to be moved over. Pretty much the only things that you will not have to switch over are the front engine cover, water pump, oil cooler, and the heads. And you should be able to keep the HPOP too.

Thank you guys for replying, I should have been more clear. I am taking the motor and the trans from the 01 and putting it in the 97, and I need to know what I need to make that work. the only thing that I know that I need to do is change the ECM over. Is there anything else?

Ok, so you're trying to modernize the powertrain in the 97?

When I was stripping down my donor engine, I noticed the plug that connects the engine harness to the vehicle harness looked identical. So out of curiosity I put them together and they are in fact the same plugs. Now whether or not that means the newer engine could be plug and play with out any extensive rewiring I don't know.

Thats what I have minus the trans and wiring, 99+ engine and accessories, I only used my AC bracket/compressor and Alternator bracket since its on a different orientation than the OBS, you are going to have to add an electric fuel pump for the fuel, i have a stock SD gtp38 turbo pedestal, bellow up pipes, fuel bowl, timing cover, engine fuel lines, K have the OBS HPOP oil lines and fittings (I like them better than the quick connects) if you are using the SD turbo prepare with fabing up the down pipe and getting the flange forthe turbo to down pipe because the OBS one is different.
