Yes sir you will have to swap driver side manifold and vavle cover gaskets and plug the hole in the top of the eng where the fuel pump is since you have elec. fuel

You mean the exhaust manifold or intakes?

Both. Intake turbo turbo pedistal manifolds intake spyder because the 01has the intercooler. You will need to get your pcm reflashed. Fuel system is dfferent im not positive but I don't think the 4r100 will bolt up to the obs block I think bell housings are different but I could be wrong. Just curious what happened to the 01 motor? They rarely completely go bad

The trans will bolt right up and play nice. The PCM needs to be reflashed for the SDs split shot injectors.

I though OUR turbo was an upgrade from the SD turbo?

Before you go through all that work id find out what happened to the 01 motor. Im willing to bet its not trashed. There are alot of very knowledgeable people on this forum that can help you figure it out. Alot of things can cause a loss of power that are simple cheap fixes. Get it back from the stealership though!

To put the 97 motor in the 01 you will want to remove the fuel pump from the valley and put a freeze plug in, swap turbo and plumbing, swamp HPOP and IPR, Injectors, valve cover gaskets and wiring, entire engine harness, intake/exhaust manifolds, exhuast backpressure tube, water pump and all accessory brackets.

The oil dipstick is different too. The bulk head fitting for the dip stick in the oil pan MIGHT be clocked differently too. I just can't remember if that is an OBS/SD or Van/pickup type thing. ICP sensor might be different too.

Everything is bolt up interchangeable though.

it sounds like its a lot of work but im willing to do it b/c i love to wrench. i went an looked at the truck its been sitting for awhile the dealer said it got warm and thats why it lost power but the cylinder walls do not look burnt nor do the pistons. The reflash i dont understand bc its the same computer running the same injectors that it did before? And where can i get it reflashed at? Could it be that the wastegate silenoid is bad and keeping it closed or something to do with the turbo

if you use your injectors out of the 01 you will not need the reflash

Sound to me you don't need to do a eng swap you just need to find out what's wrong with your's

Will the truck start and drive

i mite be buying this truck on friday the drivers side head is off the people where pulling a 12,000lbs concesion stand and it lost power unhooked and drove its self to the dealer. the dealer found a coolant hose had blown off and pullerd the head and said the motor needed to be replaced i went and looked at it tonight and the cylinder walls dont look burn at all. the cris cross lines are perfectly clear. my pland it to buy it and take it home and put it back togather and see how it runs. I read a thread in the 99-03 fourm that the guy had the same power lost issue and put fuel in it and it went away. Back to the hole switcharoo if all else fails i plan on taking the injectors and turbo off the 2001 motor and putting them in the 97 motor. so just the manifolds and gaskets and plug fuel hole is needed?
