trans cooler line fitting

trans cooler line fitting

Anyone know for sure the type fitting in a 1977 C-6 cooling line ports? It seem to be either 1/8" or 1/4" NPT.

1/8 NPT will be about 1/4" wide while the 1/4 NPT will be about 1/2" wide at the threads. If I recall correctly, the fitting for the tranny cooler was 1/4 NPT. Also, make sure to use metal tubing over rubber hose, This will make a huge difference if your belts ever disintegrate. Had this happen to me on the highway. First thing you'll notice is the tranny oil slick behind you, then the tranny falling out of gear and finally, the smoke in the engine compartment when you come to a stop on the side of the road.

I'm pretty sure they are 5/16" or 3/8" inverted flare fittings. I can't remember which and it's raining hard right now or I'd crawl under the truck to look.

Well I found that there is I think) and anti backflow valve in the return line. I guess I will just use hose clamps on the original hard line. Maybe half a double flair on the end of the tube.
