AC questions

Help before I sell this thing! My 89 f150 needed an AC recharge, so I decided to convert it to R134A. I changed the o-rings on the hose by the evaporator?(tank on the firewall)beforeI began because it had a lot of oil on it. Well, after that, I pulled a good vacuum and it did not leak off. I filled it to the proper level of refrigerant and bypassed the low pressure switch. It slowly accepted freon and it briefly blew cool air before the line that I changed the seals on blew apart. So, I changed the little spring and put it back together. I could not pull it apart at this point. I pulled another vacuum (no leakage)and charged it again. Took forever to accept freon. It was too cold to really tell how effective it was, so I waited until the next day to try it. I turned it on and it blew nothing but hot air. The low pressure line got cool( the refrigerant level was checked and proper as per the gauges)but never sweated. Then all at once, the same line blew again, p...ing me off. Acts like a blockage or something. Any ideas?

AC questions

Did you by any chance replace the orifice tube that goes in the line on the evaporator? I had to replace the one on my 88 when I had the A/C system done on it. It wasn't relatively expensive, but it might be clogged.

Might be worth a shot?

Just a follow up. I finally pried the orifice tube out of the line and it was majorly clogged. I posted on aircondition.com and they swore my compressor was shot. I took a risk and bought a new orifice tube and accumulator. I cleaned the old tube and put it back in and used R22 to flush the system 3 times. By the third, the tube was clean. I then changed the tube and accumulator and charged it with R134A. Seems to be holding up. The compressor is a little noisy, but a new one (reman)is over $300 and I didnt want to spend that much on it. A fella I work with had the same problem with his and just changed the tube and recharged with R12.

AC questions

I had mine recharged with R-12 about two years ago. The guys where I had it charged wanted to charge me over $500 to fix my A/c. Mainly because they wanted to put in a new condensor, new orifice tube, evacuate the system, & recharge it. I told them that I'd fix it, and it cost me about $300 less than what they wanted! Mainly because I bought a used condensor for about $40 and they told me it would never hold. OfF course that's been over 2 years now, & I'm still being frozen out of this truck.
