WOW..... yes sir..... that is a good conscientious company if they will help you when they could have said "NO SIR" and kept their money.

Congrats on getting some good news out of this bad situation!

Update

Me and my son made a mini documentary about the truck and the fire. It’s on YouTube if anyone wants to watch it:

Wow sir my heart aches!!!! I cannot even imagine the pain you are feeling, I know if I lost mine I would be put into a deep depression!

Fire safety is one, if not my biggest priority with my truck. Everything that can potentially cause a fire has been looked at.

Thats great. Always carry a fire extinguisher is a big lesson I’ve learned the hard way. Although it happened so fast, may not have made a difference.

I'm so sorry to hear about this.. Thank God your son got out safely! The truck can be rebuilt or replaced when he cannot. I lost a truck dear to my soul about 10 years ago, it was a 1963 Chevrolet C10.. I had never paid attention to anything older in my early 20s until dad found that one and went in halves with me. I kept it in my grandfathers old barn but family caught it on fire one night with a careless drunken campfire. I have never gotten over it but I now have 8 classic vehicles in my yard! I hope you'll choose to rebuild her!

As a Hagerty Agent (not a sales pitch).... INSURE your stuff!!!! Its cheap!!!!! If it is not running and driving then get a comprehensive only policy, it is NOT covered by your homeowners policy!!!! Find an agent that's a car guy/girl that sells Hagerty/Hemmings/Insert Classic Auto Company Here and have them walk and talk with you to determine an agreed value.

Sorry for your loss brother... It stinks for sure!!! I lost my very first vehicle to an insurance claim and thank the good lord my dad taught me to shop coverage and not price when I was 16.

Was a cause ever determined for the fire?

My pops was an Independent agent for a little while, and I remember him saying that other agencies would sometimes "poach" his customers by offering lower rates, because sometimes people shop only by the premiums. But the coverage wasn't close to the same, it is important to know what you're buying and what is covered, and what isn't. So he'd have to sit down and explain why they weren't getting a better deal.

It's real competitive and there shouldn't be huge differences between companies if comparing apples with apples and not apples with oranges. I know a lot of people class Insurance companies right up there with criminal attorneys and politicians, but he used to have some real interesting stories. Insurance is a VERY misunderstood subject!

Again, Sorry for your loss. One good thing about FTE is the knowledge and experience that is freely given, these threads really get people thinking and better able to make wise decisions on how to at least potentially save their trucks. A fire extinguisher won't always help, but it won't hurt. And insuring against loss means the hard work and legwork won't be a total disaster.

That truck, like so many trucks on this forum, HAS become a member of the family. Unfortunately under regrettable circumstances.
I would work to re-restore it if at all possible. I know it looks really bad, but nothing is irreparable. I could cavalierly say "it just takes money" but that's not it. It will take more than money, it will take desire and dedication. I think you and your family have that in spades.
Good luck.

I see it everyday!! I spent 17 years as a Corporate Chef before opening my insurance business and let me tell you... the stories will blow your mind. The average American is Insurance dumb but internet savy and everyone has that "friend who said this/that"... It is purely comical at its best.

The insurance sent an inspector to try to determine the cause of the fire but it was inconclusive. He ruled out eléctrica and said it was probably a busted fuel line, either due to failure of an in-line fuel filter or a snapped belt knocking the fuel line loose.

The insurance totaled the truck and I bought it back. They gave me more than I was expecting but not as much as I put into it (about half). We will rebuild it eventually. It’s been almost a year since the fire. Anyone that’s restored one of these trucks knows how much time, mental/emotional/financial drain it can take out of you. I’ll know when I’m ready to jump back into it.
