Another update. I was kind of able to get ForScan to connect. It would not read the current PCM, but it connected with the stored profile. I was able to run a few KOEO test. I was also able to get through the KOEO PCM test, but I could read current data. I also was able to run the diagnoic test for the ABS, IC, and TBC. Those all came back good. When I tired to read current data the truck almost stalled and I got a couple of codes, for the Cam and Crank sensors.
I am starting to think more that I may fried the PCM. Wish I had a spare to test. I am going to try to troubleshoot the PCM some more tomorrow. If it turns out questionable or bad, does anyone have a suggestion for a new one?
Did it let you talk to the VSM and the 4WD module? I don't recall the correct name for that one.
The VSM will be a PITS to reach up to if you want unplug it. The 4WD module is easy enough
being over by the passenger side airbag. You can see it from the glove box when you push the
tabs in and drop the door down.
Ok I have completed some more testing of the network and the module. I have been able to connect to every module TCM, IC, GEM, TBC ABS, PAM, and RCM. Each module passed the commanded self test, and then I was able to read live data from each one.
That's the good news. Now the problem child seems to be the PCM. I can get it to do the KOEOff self test fine, the KOEOn test it stumbles wants to die then it finishes the test. I tried it a couple time and ended up with it passing but had cam and/or crank position codes. If I try to get live data again it stumbles and tries to die, then my scanner gives me an error saying it can't read the data.
Any ideas? Am I at the point on having to get a new PCM? Since I can't connect I can't even try to put the stock tune back in. I hate to ask do you think the dealer might be able to reflash this, or is it done?
If you have not looked yet I would get a good flashlight and a 10X lens to look it over very carefully.
Things like dirt or other crusty stuff need to be cleaned off. Also check for insulation damage.
I pulled the DLC down and looked very closely at the connectors and wires. The wires looked good, and the connector looked clean, but I blow them out with some air. Still have the lack of connection issue.
Sorry I forgot to post the conclusion to the story. It turned out that I kind of fried the PCM. I replaced it with a remanufactured one and everything has been working fine since.
I try to post the conclusions to issues I have for future references.
Well I did nit so much fry the PCM as fry the DLC in the PCM. Never really figured it out, spoke with Ed at FICMRepair and the best conclusion was death by a thousand cuts. It did happen right after I loaded a new tune. But like I said a reman'd PCM did fix the issue.
You didn't and no worries. What I did was probably self inflicted and if my experience helps some all the better. At least it was a relatively simple fix that didn't cost too much and with no downtime.
