I mounted my tank in front of the passenger side rear tire. Excuse the mud on the tank. The air compressor is on a "L" plate mount bolted to the frame. Works great. Also have lines run to my shocker air horns mounted behind the air dam.

Looks like you have stationary step boards. I have the power boards that go in and out. I think I have less room along the outer frame rails
I see that's a 2.5 gallon. Think a 5 gallon would fit? I need to blow out water lines, air my tires up and down, etc.
I think it is going to depend on the way it mounts as and the length/diameter.
Mine is not mounted through the bed. So it cam mount about as mothe inch higher

They are a little pricey but something like an ARB Twin compressor would probably be up to the task and not need as large of a tank, although the bigger the better I guess.
Mine is mounted on top of the spare tire. The two compressors and the 5 gallon tank all fit up there with good amount of space and also away from the elements. I made a steel plate to mount everything on then mounted the plate to the crossbars. Spare tire still fully functional.
I ran a 3gal tank and 580 compressor in the area your steps probably reside while retracted. Since you have the long bed though I would think you have plenty of room in there to mount a 3-5g tank and compressor.
