I have a 2002 ford excursion 7.3 4x4 with 366,000. As of lately, I had a guy stiff my on some labor after doing a hpop gasket replacement. I had another guy install a gasket actuator so he had to remove the turbo. I bought new o rings to reinstall the turbo on the pedestal, reinstall the h pipe and some connectors etc. Since starting the engine, it throws a code (was already throwing it before I bought it) P1316 but now it sounds like it missing. I went to throw some fuel in there and the longer I drove it, the worse it missed and decrease of power got and smoked some under the turbo and around it. I've been reading a lot about this problem but I couldn't find anywhere when guys would comment about the smoking factor from the turbo area. This is my first power stroke and I love the excursion so I need some help. I’m kinda thinking maybe an o ring isn’t sitting properly or something. Help please!
Welcome to the forum!
With it running rough and throwing the P1316, I would be looking for lose connections at the UVCH. Try doing a search on the 50 cent mod, you should find lots of information on it,
Not sure on the smoking around the turbo, could be either a fuel or oil leak. I would do a visual check in the valley of the engine to see if any fluids are collecting there, if so try to find a source of a leak.

Hey John, thanks for the response. I was leaning towards the 50 cent mod as well. I'll have to ask my mechanic to look at his work to see whats leaking.
X2 on the connectors for the injectors causing the code.
With the turbo recently out there's a good chance that the mating surface of the collector and the back of the turbo are not lined up correctly. What color is this smoke

Thanks for the reply, it’s hard to tell because by the time the smoke hits the front part of the engine it’s almosr gone but it looks like it could have a blue hue to it
Your 2mon late brother. There everyday up until this past Feb 1st.
Taking daughter to Angels game june 10th. She staying with a friend. I can cruise over if still giving problems
SO here's the update, with the code, I had the engine light on. I removed the driver side valve cover and there was no clip like in the video for the .50 cent fix.....but the connection was tight. When I put everything back together the truck was still missing BAD and still smoking oil....looks like its coming from behind the turbo and sides. When the engine is running, the smoke is bad.....engine off is slowly goes away. Also the engine light did not go bad on. So tomorrow i plan on removing the passenger side valve cover and possibly the turbo to see if it mounted right on the o rings. Am I on the right track here ?????????
Update, I uninstalled everything and it doesn’t smoke anymore....loose clamp on the back side of the turbo. What I think is wrong, on the y pipe, there’s a screw next to the vacuum solenoid (not sure if that’s what it’s called) that’s missing some wires that controls a spring inside the y pipe.....I’ve looked everywhere and cannot find them. Where do they lead back too or am I going out of my mind?!?
That looks like your intake air heater to me, they usually get disconnected. All they have is wiring going to them.
So then it’s nothing pertinent, right? On another note, I went to move it, and now the stupid thing won’t crank over. I have a loose shifter, so I thought that it wasn’t in park but it was. There are times where the dash lights are dim like a low battery, but then they come on. I just replaced the ICP and still no crank. I hear what sounds like a an air pump behind the passenger battery.....I have no idea what that is. Any suggestions would be appreciated guys
The air pump is your vacuum pump for the ESOF 4WD and HVAC selector, it should not run all the time and if it does you'll need to fix that. Check your battery connections and grounds.

Thanks for the reply. It only runs just recently. I wanted to try and test drive my rig but then when I closed the hood and started it, that’s when the no crank issue started....as well as me hearing the pump when the lights on the dash where going dim.
