Has anyone experience with a video camera inside a trailer? We'd like to be able to check on the horses while on the road. I am thinking of a system with live view of the inside, projected wireless either to a smart phone or iPad while driving. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
I've got a wireless setup from Tadi Brothers in my 3 horse gooseneck. Works pretty well. I wired the monitor to an upfitter switch so it doesn't turn on every time I turn the truck on, and I don't have to have a cable running over the dash to plug/unplug. I moved the camera antennae as far forward in my trailer as I could to help keep a good reception, as I have a mid-tack that adds another wall. Got the antennae up to the dressing room area. Still get a little bit of noise on the signal, but nothing that's too annoying. And it would probably help if the antenae for the monitor wasn't down in the passenger footwell by the fuse panel. Someday I may relocate that to the backside of the monitor.
Prior to this truck, I had a hardwired Ranchcams.net setup. But since I've got the built in trailer camera setup, I didn't want to have to deal with 3 cables. That system worked nicely as well. Had some noise on that one too now that I think about it. Maybe I actually need to install a ferrite on the power line... hrrm.
Factory ford trailer camera would work. I have the NavTV to view all my cameras while driving (https://navtv.com/products/NTV-KIT899/cod-f50.html). So it would be a clean setup, you can check on your horses and check any camera you want while moving (and even get side camera view when you hit your turn signal)
Try to contain the laughter, but I used a baby monitor to view the interior of my travel trailer while underway. It has audio/video and a temperature readout. The camera needs a power source and came with an AC adapter, but it really just needs 5V USB so I plug it into a charger brick. The monitor has a rechargeable battery. Works awesome and they are about 30' apart.
Thank you for the replies. I don't have the 5 camera system in my truck, so the NavTV product looks to be out of picture. I like the baby monitor idea, so I might try that to get started.
