I keep getting a trailer disconnected warning alarm on my dash, I check everything and all is ok. Just towed it recently with my 15 ford. Now my new 17 superduty keeps having problems! Any cures?
I had this on my first tow with my 2017. Contact cleaner, and a Q-tip on the plug on the trailer seems to have cleared it up. I also cleaned the plug on the truck, is case there was any oil, or corrosion inhibitors. Or if it picked up any debris from the trailer plug.
If your trailer has LED taillights or an isolater the lights may not be pulling enough voltage for the ECM to recognize the trailer.
i had the same issue pulling my DRV. Would get the trailer disconnected message along with turn signals being out.
I added resistors to the input circuit from the truck to the trailer. This solved the issue.
I have heard that if the truck does not sense the trailer the issue does not just affect the error messages but also adaptive cruise and exhaust brake does not adjust for pulling a trailer.
Rather than adding resistors which generate a lot of heat, some have just added some bulbs and sockets to the circuit to increase the draw.
Had this happen a couple times, Clean out the rear trailer plug and put the dielectric grease to it. There is one high pressure car wash in town that I like to go to and I think thats how the water gets in.
Along with LED issues, check the ground path through the hitch system. ( Dirty, sloppy receiver/ pin/hitch or ball to trailer path ). Super duties using a reducer sleeve are notorious for loss of connection there. The tow package monitors the difference in electrical connection paths between the wiring connector and the ground path though the hitch system
