Emergency Flasher Trick

I believe, I read a post here that told and showed a picture of the RV trailer plug and a 2 bladed flasher was used to plug into certain spots that caused the trailer lights to flash.

This was used to alert traffic that the trailer was disabled,(in case you had to leave the trailer along side the road, to get parts etc).

The seach dog don't hunt for me.

Anyone remember this post?
Tia,
Don

Don't recall this one, but now I want to find out about it, too.

I've never heard about anything like that. But...

If the trailer batteries are good, and connected to the 12V line (allowing them to charge, etc), then there would be power there, on the trailer side. If you managed to connect an old standard two prong flasher can between the 12V pin and the trailer running light pin, then the running lights would flash, wouldn't they?

For example, if you took one of the first picture, and twisted the blades around so that they plugged into slot 3 and slot 4 of the second picture (on the left).

If nothing else you could make a very simply adapter that connects your RT and LT circuits to the 12v circuit through a flasher.

The use of the flasher in the tail light and side light circuit can be enhanced by wiring it directly into the wiring with a switch. Only needs to switch 12 volts into the circuit at the fuse box, ahead of the fuse(s). This can be used any time by anyone with the ability to flip a switch in an emergency. This can be very useful when RV is parked without tow vehicle attached. Sometimes we park in locations that have no identifications (lot or site no.). It will help responders find and identify the vehicle requiring help. This has been helpful with motor homes that have flasher systems.

So, DC, that is a standard flasher? I'll have to stop and pick one up. Thanks

I believe that is a standard flasher can like we used to use on older cars and trucks. Any auto parts store should be able to sell you one. I seem to recall that there were larger ones that were heavy duty and handled more current, also.

Just a follow up to my original post, I got a 2 prong can flasher (like the one picture above) and plugged it into my DF TH pigtail plug and ALL the outside RV lights started blinking, including the rear stop/tail lites.

At night it makes a great visual clue that you should be watching for something ahead of you. Tried it on the old 73 Terry and it worked there also. This will go inside the DF and hopefully I hope to never use it, but I am prepaired now. I also got a fuse holder (flat blade type) with wire pigtails on each side and it will make ALL the RV lights stay on, without blinking, just another option.

Thanks for the help and info guys, Can this be added to sticky list so it don't get lost, It just might save someone their RV and possibly their life, if they have to leave their RV along side the road and go for help, etc.

Don
ps, There is also a 3 pronged/bladed HD can flasher, it will NOT WORK, only the two prong, slips right in the pigtail slots.
