Self Adjusting?
Are the stock brakes on a 54 F100 self adjusting?

I do not think so. However when you buy brake pads I believe most come with the kit to install the self adjuster. At least they did on another vehicle I replaced the drum brake pads on.

Think it was the 60s before F100s had self adjusters. Certainly after 56. I'm sure someone else can say. I believe the parts are interchangeable if you can find some.

'64 was first year for trucks, iirc.
The truth is self-adjusters don't work particularly well (at least over time) and they can cause trouble when the parts break, and start flopping around free lance inside the drum. If I didn't have them today, I wouldn't go out of my way to install them necessarily.

No.
1964 was the first year that F100 2WD's had self adjusting brakes. 1967 was the first year F100 4WD's had self adjusting brakes.
1967 F100 4WD use the same self adjuster parts as 1964/66 F100 2WD .. 1968 and later F100 2WD/4WD self adjuster parts are different.

Abe,
You can install self adjusters but up front you’ll have to remove the grease shields.

Right/Left - Front/Rear: The levers are right (
2A176 ) & left (
2A177 ) specific. The cables (
2A178 ) and cable guides (
2A179 ) are the same right/left.
The self adjusters only work (
if they work at all! ) when you back up and step on the brake pedal.
These parts were such a PITA that NAPA offered a kit to replace these pesky parts.

No… but you could put the self adjusters on if you want to.
