I bought a set of rear brake shoes from NAPA in the small town where I live for my 64 F100 and upon installation, I realized they wouldn't fit...called NAPA to double check the part # and they were correct. I mic'ed the new shoes and the old ones - nearly 1/4" difference in width!! I called Dennis Carpenter and asked the tech dept to measure the width of their shoes, 1 3/4" perfect-exactly what I need, but they don't take Paypal on non-Ebay purchases.
Moral of story; do your homework before you start even the smallest job!! I should have put the mic on the shoes before I went to NAPA & measured them there, bad run on the whole aftermarket NAPA batch....bummer
hmm im running pads from i think carquest on my 64 all the way around. Mine is a F250 4x4 though so its different. Your truck has a 9in Ford axle doesn't it?? Its an axle that has been used in so many different applications for so many years just about anywhere should have parts for it (even though im sure the size of brakes changed over the years). I would just take one of your shoes in with you and have them match it up. I do it all the time at my Napa, computer do lie and part numbers do get jacked up.

You would think this is a very common, easy to find part, after all it's a "fast-wear" part, but even tho it does have a standard 9" rear, it does have narrow shoes. The LMC parts books even states standard 2" brakes (only under F250) and the phone call I made to DC the man measured the shoes at 1 3/4" width. You are right, always carry the part with you if possible. What should have taken 1 1/2 hrs has now drawn out for over two weeks
Hey Flatbed just a heads up on that brand of brake shoes. I was having an issue with my 64 4x pulling when I hit the brakes and did the old adjustment routine. After a couple of adjustments with no good resultsI decided to take the drum off. Inside the linings were coming off the shoes. Checked the rest of the corners and the linings on two more were coming loose and the right rear were both completely off the shoes and floating inside the drum. Not putting down the brand just my experience and something to watch out for.
Thanks for the heads up but i just had all four corners apart doing wheel bearing and they appeared to be fine. Ive had them on there probably 4 years or better now and never had a problem with pulling. My guess is that you must have just gotten the lemon set. Something ill keep an eye on though.
