Okay people - heres the deal: I haven't had any time to work on my drivetrain vibration, BUT, the not so local Pick-N-Pull is having a special on driveshafts this weekend - $5 buxs!
I'm thinking maybe the front yoke's splines are worn so I thought I might just try another driveshaft - I mean the price is right!
I'm hoping that you guys can direct me to possible donor trucks. What trucks can I look under in the hopes of finding a driveshaft that is the same as the one on my '79 F-150 2WD w/302 and 4-speed OD manual tranny, 133"WB, (GVWR 6050#) one-piece driveshaft? (Do I have to find one with the 302/4sp/OD combo, or are automatics and 4WD driveshafts interchangeable with mine with respect to spline count/length/ujoint size?)
It really just has to be the same length, dare I say that ford drivelines are interchangeable. They have 3 different U joint sizes for 1979. I believe that only one was used on the 2wd models, so you should look for one that is a 2wd and has the same tranny as you, or take a measurement of your driveshaft, and then just go a measurin'. The front yoke is going to give you some freedom though, so a really close one will still fit provided its not too long.
You could also just go find the front yoke and replace it, that would be easier, you just have to find a truck with a manual transmission since all the output shafts were the same size.
measure the tube length from weld to weld, and use that measurement to find a shaft. what kind of vibration are you getting? accelerating, or decelerating. or does it do it as you pickup speed, the faster you go. just wondering.
