New member introduction, with truck build questions

Hello. I recently joined Ford-trucks.com and have been reading the forums. I noticed there's a lot of knowledge here and some cool builds.

I recently started a truck restoration/customization and have some questions. I bought a clean, straight, 2wd '85 F150. Ford built it with a carb'd 302 and an AOD but I bought it with no engine or transmission.

I also bought a complete '82 F250 with a 300 and a T18. Well it's actually a camper built using the F250 chassis and cab. The camper is junk. The cab has major rust but the engine starts right up and runs smooth and quiet. I bought the entire truck for the engine and so that I would have every little bracket, mount, etc in order to swap it into the F150.

I also bought a '96 E4OD to swap into the F150. Yes, I know Ford did not come out with the E4OD until '89 and I know it's an all electronic transmission but that's why it's a restoration/customization build. I want to build the truck the way I want it.

So to summarize: I'm building a 2wd 1985 F150 with a 300 and an E4OD. All this has finally led up to the questions. What year truck can I find the correct crossmember and driveshaft? I'm thinking a crossmember and driveshaft from a 1989 - 1991 E4OD equipped truck will bolt right in. What do you think? The crossmembers I have are basically straight but I know some time in the early '90's Ford started using crossmembers that had a large bend on the end. Did 9th generation (1992 - 1996) trucks have the same basic frame as my '85? If so, perhaps I could use the crossmember and driveshaft from those years also.

Sorry for the long first post over nothing more than a crossmember and a driveshaft but I am a believer in the KISS principle. I want the engine/transmission to sit at the angles Ford designed them to sit. Same goes for the driveshaft and U-joints.

Any information that will reduce the time I spend parts hunting at the junkyard is greatly appreciated.

Dave

PS: I'm a believer in the KISS principle but yet I'm putting an E4OD where Ford never did.....go figure!

First welcome to the forum.
I think someone just did a post on the AOD to 4.9 so some of that may have information you could use for your EOD?

As for the cross member(s) if you have all truck side by side you could take measurements on how wide each frame is. If they are the same then I don't see why you could not use the CM from the EOD just may need to drill some holes is all.
If not using the EOD CM then using one that fits the frame and modifying/customizing it to work will be in order.

Drive shaft I think one you have the motor & trany mounted just take a measurement and have one (custom) made. Just make sure you give them the EOD yoke so they have something to work with and keep the $$ down some.

When you get going on this project keep us posted with pictures
Good luck
