Hey everyone im a new member and this is my first post,i look forward to learning alot from you guys!!!
My dad and i own a 63 Ford Custom Cab stepside and we were looking it over the other day to see how much work was going to go into a restoration when i found a tag i had never seen before.it is located in the front part of the door opening kinda between the hinges on the flat surface facing you as you look towards the front and it says U.S. Marine Corps
#xxxxxxxxxxxx (didnt write the # down)
Plant Account
does anyone know what this means? i assume it just means that the truck was built for the Marines? and does this add any value or make my truck anything special? or is it just a neat bit of history about the truck?
thanks in advance.......Dana
Welcome to FTE! You'll find a lot of good stuff here. Often if you search before asking a question, you'll find the answer. If you don't find what you need right away, you will usually find something to help you formulate your questions better.
In your case, we need the Warranty Plate information to decipher more about your truck. The warranty plate has he VIN on it, plus other codes and numbers that mean something.
I know of one '65 F-100 short bed in Augusta, GA (not for sale, unfortunately) that has a plate similar to the one you describe, but it is riveted to the dash. It was for the Marines, and was used to push airplanes around!
thanks banjopicker66 with the heads up on the search sorry about posting before hand ill use that before posting next time.ill go up and get the info and post it so you guys can check it out.........thanks again

Forgot to say, no need to apologize, and that it's quite OK to ask questions! I just mentioned the search function to help you out in the future.
The Marines plate you mentioned is a US Marines thing only, probably for accountability. Nothing special in and of itself, but you DO have a government DSO, which validates that it was owned by the Marines when new.
I don't think it adds any value, but is sure is a neat bit of history.
THe government bought thousands of these trucks for on base use. I lived in Maine in the early 60's and we had a whole bunch of the swb pickups all over town. The ones we saw were dark blue because Dow Air Force base was down the street from my house. Each branch of the services used these trucks. most were sold off locally as surplus with real low mileage. It was cheaper to buy these than actual Mil spec trucks. Most had the Gov. data plate on the center of the firewall inside the cab. There should be a batch number on this plate.
wow, thanks for the helpguys, i see one thing for sure that is not original on my truck! because right now it has a 260 V8 or possible a 289 i havent looked at the part numbers on the block yet to determine which.everything else looks right on! this truck is dark blue right now but i believe i can make out some OD green in the door jams, time will tell as we work on it! thanks you guys are great im glad i found this website!!!
You may be able to contact the Marines for information on his truck. They have to keep records on these vehicles and you may even find something interesting about your truck.
