What is causing all the rust?
Been noticing many Escapes & Mariner rusting out near & around the fuel fill door?
So I stated looking at my 2011 Mariner ,yep it's starting to bubble around the right & left fender
. What is going on here, if it is a problem why didn't they slap some crap around the fender & fuel door to stop the rust from starting.

My '02 is fine around the fuel door. Now the driver's side fender where the rear door plastic covers it..... That's another story. Just there though, and I'm not complaining since we live in one of the "rust" states.
Maybe adding the environmental package when we bought it was really worth it!
