Look at that Mariner, look at the 360 degree view, then the "feature" showing interior view. Doesn't it look like a Ford Escape with a Mercury name tag on it ?
They aren't exactly trying to hide it. and the Mercury will be getting my money in a couple months. Ford just can't put together a decent package in the Escape for me. Mariner ain't perfect either, but a heck of a lot closer to what I want in my new car. Ford owns Mercury too, so what's the big deal?

That sure is a dumba$$ web site. I've always said, regarding web site design, "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should". Whatever.

Can you imagine what that's like with dial-up? It must take DAYS to download! It's really pretty, but how long does it take to get to the INFORMATION?! I couldn't agree more.
Why is an Escape a $19000 to $24000 vehicle and a Mazda Tribute a $22000 to $27000 vehicle? My wife was wanting one and I was dumbfounded by the Mazda markup with similar options.
My research has indicated that the Tribute is cheaper than Escape. 3.0L 4x4 escape seems to invoice around $26,800 (sport), and Tribute S model seems to invoice around $26,000 (includes leather and MACH audio). So I'm guessing you will get more tribute for the buck.
I looked at some Tribbies today, and the cloth interior was quite inferior, seemed thin and glossy. The Mariner actually has the best interior style-wise, and the Escape No Boundaries has the heaviest duty cloth on the seats.
I hope to drive a Tribute tomorrow, and price one out a little better, then I will have driven all 3 versions of this vehicle, and can make a better comparison.
It seems that with the Tribute S you get more bells and whistles thrown in especially if you order one of the option packages: package 1, 2, or 3. With the Tribute you also get a longer warranty than with the Escape. Looks like Mazda stopped their $2,000. rebate on the 05's also; glad we got ours before that expired.
I'm tellin' ya, it's all about the interior. Pictures do it no justice. You gotta see for yourself. I really like the cloth black with herringbone pattern. The tan is pretty boring. The leather doesn't seem real, and it's patented by Milliken(?). I'm still torn between interior, where You spend most of your time, and exterior, which may say more about who you are...

Well even if you don't care much for the exterior (as I don't), it still looks classy and upscale. Interior is very important bc thats where you spend your time. Are they at dealers now? I may have to stop by and check em out in person.
yup, they are at dealers, tommorrow we are going shopping. either escape or mariner. the mariner is much nicer, we already looked at them twice. here in jersey, the mazda starts about 2 grand lower than the escape, and the mariner is about 1600 more than the escape. i know 2 people that have escapes and they have been pretty good so far. too bad she hates the mazda, its cheep.

They are all built with the same engine and "Mazda" CD4E trannie. I would go for the Mazda just to get the longer warranty on that trannie. Remember They are all built by Ford.. Kansas City I think...
Mariner is Built in Ohio, at least tht's what the window stickers say. I'm presently enjoying playing the pricig game, pitting the Mazda andMercury dealers against each other on price. They are owned by the same dealer conglomerate. I got a Mariner quote about $1500 over the Tribute today, so just I invited a different Mercury dealer in to undercut the first one. Hopefully, I will find out an answer soon. (insert evil cackle here)
