Unit is a 2017 low profile 15k. The numbers are hypothetical but the problem is the same. If the thermostat reads 85 and I turn the ac on to auto-cool-high, set thermostat to 75, the unit will come on and start cooling like normal. It will run for a couple of hours and the compressor and condenser fan will shut off before it gets to set temp.. At this point the squirrel cage fan continues to run. The only way I can get it cooling again is to cycle the thermostat to off and back to auto-hi-cool and the unit operates like normal for a couple of hours. It is like cycling the thermostat is resetting something. If something was overheating would it start right back up after cycling thermostat?
If the set temp is reached in a short period of time the unit will cycle like it is supposed to.
It is is at a repair shop since warranty ran out in Feb. but they say they can not duplicate within an hour. It usually takes me 2-4 hours to make it happen. They will try again tomorrow and let it run longer.
Any ideas? Would cycling thermostat allow it to run if something was overheated? I am plugged in to 30a here at home. My second ac is identical and runs until set temp is achieved. There is only 1a difference between the 2 when running. I am not running them at the same time.
First is your condenser clean. Next what's the amp draw at the compressor, being it runs that long and if the compressor sound normal it may be a run capacitor that's out of spec causing high amp draw, over time that will cause it to go off on the thermo overload.
Thanks for the reply. Condenser is clean and I do not know amp draw at compressor. The amps I spoke of were from my EMC while running and not at start. When running it runs and cools fine. It does act like a thermal problem and compressor is hot when it kicks off. If it is thermal why would cycling the thermostat as soon as it kicks off allow it come back on?
Local repair shop still has it. I asked them to wait until it warmed up and camper was warm inside to try again. This would be simulating trying to cool down after getting to a cg.
