A/C runs

I noticed that my A/C runs all the time. Is this normal for an Ex? I'm wondering if it's the result of the after market DRL that were installed.

I guess my description was vague. The compressor runs as it would normally run when it is set to AC in all positions except for the off position, where it turns off. I just happened to notice it over the last couple of days, it's been humid but not hot so I haven't had the AC on, it selector was set in the vent position. I noticed a lot of water under it and looked into what was going one and found the compressor running.

And you had it on dash only vent right, split level still runs the compressor. I found that out a few weeks back.

Good to know. I'll have to get the kids to flip through the settings and find out what ones the compressor runs on.

Thanks

It should run on everything but dash, floor and off. Stupid of Ford actually. I've been thinking about putting a kill switch in the panel. I think it's the purple wire coming off the control head. I'd have to pull up alldata again and look.

You called it, I'm surprised that it would run in the split position. I assumed that would be a safe one.

Seriously?

Great, I might as well be using the stupid AC then. Cutoff switch added to the list.

It runs to reduce humidity. If you don't like that you could add a kill switch.

Yeah, surprised me too... I'll do it when I put in the remote power supply for the sat radio, that'll be the next time I have the dash apart. Glad it wasn't anything $erious like a module..

I'm surprised this is...well...that this still comes as a surprise to anyone.

Ford's have been like this for a long time and I guess I figured it was something everyone knew about.

I use my vents all the time out here. It rains alot, so I can't open the windows, but it isn't hot enough for AC. I figured the vent was NOT running the AC. So I'd still get cooler air, but no performance hits from the compressor cycling.

Same reason I hate running defrost. If I wanted the AC compressor on, I'd turn the stupid thing on

This is the first time I've noticed it and I haven't driven anything but a ford since 1995. They have always run the AC in the defrost positions as well as the AC positions.

That's the thing. Not all of them have. My 99 Mustang doesn't do it. My 06 Mustang didn't do it. And of course our old Focus and the Escape has a kill switch...
