Inaccurate temperature

Has anyone else been having issues with the outside temp reading in the truck?
my 17 F250 lariat every now and then will get stuck on a temperature that is not right.
Last time I was hunting it was holding onto the early morning temp and was off by as much as 15 degrees 3 hours later.
It wasn’t until half way through the day did it update

I had the same issue while hunting. It’s was about 15 degrees off during freezing temperatures. If it’s mild out it seems to work fine.

Try unplugging the ambient air temp sensor under the passenger side mirror and plug it back in. Maybe connection is loose or faulty...

The temps maybe off if your mirrors are black, especially if they are off on the high side. The black plastic will get hotter from the sun and radiate that heat, I have never seen an accurate outside temp gauge on any vehicle, My wife Fusion is supposedly just above the road in the front of the car so gets heated by the black top.

Temps with my black mirrors may read +15 to +30°F when I start out, depending apon the angle of the sun. within a mile the temperature will pass a sanity check.

So, I removed the sensor (2919 F350 XL/STX 6.2) did nothing more than ‘disassemble the clips’, re-installed it, went to the driver seat, cycled the ignition (did not start the engine) the SYNC3 8” screen reading read 50d (which I consider to be accurate) for 2-3 seconds then displayed 89d. This was repeatable for as long as I cycled the key. Any chance the ‘fix’ is a new $7 sensor??

I've had the same issue with my 2018 F-150 where on an intermittent basis, the outside temp on the display is 10-20 degrees off even after I've driven it for a while. Typically it seems to reflect the colder morning temp at mid day even though the outside temp has increased significantly. I've had it to a dealership 5 times now for this problem. They've replaced the temperature sending unit twice and re-calibrated twice but from time to time I still have the problem. They are now telling me you have to drive the vehicle for 5 miles at 30+ mph for the temp to register an accurate reading and I don't buy that as this has not been the case when it worked properly. They told me today that they found no problem and that it was now displaying accurately. This is getting old!

Mine SEEMED to work in the warmest months, then resorted back to displaying something like +30degrees when the temperatures began their steady decline to winter. From what I understand there is the sensor/sender under the mirror and ‘processor’ that converts the signal to the displayed temperature, that ‘processor’ is in the heater control bank (not in the SYNC unit as I had suspected). I never took mine in to be looked-at, I simply have ignored the feature (I never had it in my ‘04), based on your service experience I am glad that I slipped the experience, I had a gut feeling that it would mot be a cut-and-dried easily-diagnosed problem. Since you have had yours serviced, good luck with a resolution.

I’m having similar issues with mine, but think it is affecting the heated seats and steering wheel on remote start. If the temp for the previous day is above 50F when the truck is parked, the next morning when the temps are cold, the seats and steering wheel don’t heat up. And the sync screen will say the temp is above 50F. It takes it maybe 10 minutes or longer to finally read the right temperature. Does this sound likely the culprit with the seats not heating up?

possibly...this past autumn, light frost/heavy dew (outside temp in the 30s) my remote start with the HVAC set to AUTO as opposed to LAST my truck cabin was cook, no heat (AC?) I assumed because the truck ‘thought’ that it was warm outside...I assume the outside temperature reading is a key part of the equation in calling for cabin comfort. My solution was to change my remote start setting to LAST, I simply leave the temperature UP and fan UP before shutting down the truck. Remembering to do this took dome doing after 45-years of turning off all accessories before shutting down. Good luck to you.

Reconnect with a bit of dielectric grease and see. Corrosion? Or new sensor. Mine is very accurate to my heat pump reading, the RAV4 and the weather channel. Unfortunately, mostly in the minus C range half the year. Mines Cdn truck, it’s seen -45 to plus 42 C.
