Outside Temp Sensor

Outside Temp Sensor
Have noticed that the outside temperature on truck will take a while to reset itself after truck has been sitting in the cool morning to the hot daytime temps here in southwest Arizona. It can be 55F when we shut the truck off and the we will use it again later in the day when we know it is 75F and temp will sit at 55F for 15 minutes or more before it reads true ambient temps. Any similar experiences with this? Is this a sensor that is failing??

I believe the sensor is located inside the passenger side mirror housing. If it is in the shade and also shaded when you happen to be driving it will take a while to calibrate. Maybe pay some attention to the circumstances and see if it still bothers you.
My only concern would be the engine fuel/emissions systems getting bad ambient readings leading to improper fuel-air ratios for optimal mileage and emissions.

Do we know for certain that the sensor is in the passenger mirror? I always assumed this also but I've been watching the temperature reported by the intake air PID on my Torque app and the temp displayed is always EXACTLY what that PID reports. Unless someone can confirm otherwise, I'm starting to think the temp that is displayed on the console is from the intake.

I think that goofy Canadian dude posted the wire diagram years ago showing the sensor location and circuit. I can't believe I've forgotten his handle, he's the one with the white 350 out west that talks with Andre and the guys. Oh well, I haven't read those hang out threads in a long time. He's got the service publications.

Just my thoughts.
The ambient air temperature sensor is in the right hand sidemirror. It has a yellow with violet stripe and yellow with green stripe goingto it. These wires go to the PCM and most likely on the CAN BUS from there.
There are a few air temperature sensors in the 2013 model year.
I believe that what the OP has posted is normal. The ambient airtemperature is not a priority so the trucks computer doesn’t update the displayas soon as you would expect. I’m assuming that the truck’s computer doesn’t askfor an update till the truck’s engine is up to running temperature.
I’m thinking from my old memory that a computer (module) programminghas to request for data and update the display. If I have Torque Pro runningthe display will update because the truck thinks the display requested it, sothe display will update. I remember poring cold water on the mirror when testingfor the Torque Pro PID 22F446.
