Will the ambient temperature pull from GPS/Sirius, or even wifi? The reason I ask is tonight my neighbor decided to wash his car and noticed ice forming.
We both looked at our phones and it said it was 41. He has a Tesla and looked at his temp reading which said 40. I had my truck running while doing a Sync update so I looked at mine and it also said 41.
He got a temperature sensor/clock from inside and after about 5 minutes it showed a temp of 28.
I don't think so. There is a temp sensor, I believe it's on the underside of one of the outboard mirrors. I noticed mine tends to read on the high end.
Ambient environmental temperature is typically measured about five feet above ground. Your truck's environmental temp sensor is probably fairly low (close to the ground) and was picking up a false reading affected by the road surface.
The outside temp sensor on these trucks is located underneath the passenger-side mirror. There is a hole with a probe inside it. This is probably the most ideal location of any vehicle I've ever seen - away from the heat of the engine and much higher off the ground then most, and away from the center of the highway where there may be more heat.
There is no sync between GPS or Phone or WiFi temp readings. There still may need to be a few minutes for the sensor to read accurately if the truck is parked on radiating pavement in the summer. Ice can form even when temps are above freezing if there is a breeze. If the passenger side mirror was exposed to sunlight and the housing was warm but then the sun went down, the temp reading in the truck might be false as well.
