Bigger Brakes Help

1977 Ford F150 Custom Explorer Supercab Long Bed 2wd
I want bigger brakes on the truck and don't really know much about universality around these years in terms of 2wd suspension. Please be patient with me, I am young (20) and dumb but Im not against learning or criticism.

Can I take brake from the same generation 250 and 350 with twin i beam and bolt them onto my f150?
If so, will I need the I beams and spindles?
If not, is there anyone that know of after market spindles that will work to allow bigger brakes?

Any and all help would be awesome, and anyone that knows where i can get a older Chiltons Manual or workshop manual please do tell. I for the life of me can only find Chiltons manuals made by Hayens and I have one but it is as useless as a square wheel.

the brakes you have are designed to suffice for anything a half ton should be doing. if your brakes are working properly you should have no problems.

I have the truck stuffed with alot of upgrades to handle slightly heavier loads and a motor making good power. And we can't forget that I drive like a**hole.

There are lots of aftermarket and JY solutions for improving the stopping power of your truck. Among them are:
  • Hydroboost Conversion
  • Rear Disk Brake Conversion
  • Larger disks, bigger calipers (may require larger wheels and/or bolt pattern)
GO: Horsepower costs money, how fast you wanna' go?
STOP: Braking costs money, how fast you wanna stop?

250/350 stuff means a different wheel bolt pattern, but you could always swap to a matching rear axle, which would also have larger drums. Something like a hydraboost upgrade, slotted rotors and good pads will make a huge difference for relatively cheap money. If that's not enough there's always aftermarket stuff.

Are your brakes getting hot and fading/warping? Or are you wanting more braking force from the get go? I’d assume that would decide where you should go from here.

Sorry posted this in your other thread...

What are the issues with the brakes now and what are you using the truck for?

Does it already have power brakes? If not, I'd start there.

I can tell you that my 73 F100 had horrible brakes when I got it, but since going through the whole system (new master cylinder, new booster, new rotors, bearings, rebuilt calipers, new rear drum kit, and all new lines) and doing a lot of bleeding my truck now stops on a dime. If I really stomped on in I'd probably go through the window. The only things I did that weren't stock were larger rear wheel cylinders and fancier, slotted rotors (only because I got then free thanks to Amazon's mistake).

Im wanting bigger brakes now because that really all I have left to upgrade for the heavier loads. Currently I have the truck set up for holding and moving the heavier loads, but stopping takes a little more than I am comfortable with. All the suspension upgrades I have came from a 79 350 i couldn't use the brake because it was a 4x4. I drove a buddy of mines 78 350 with the same trailer and car on it, and i liked the way it stopped much better. .
