1999 shifting question

I have just recently bought my truck and don't know much about the auto trans in it. When I am driving it if I let all the way off the gas when going down hill and then give it gas the trans seems to hunt almost like its down shifting, if I keep my foot on the gas just a hair it doesn't do it. It will go from 1500 rpms off the gas jump to about 1800 rpms and then go back to 1500 rpms.

If you push on the throttle, normally the transmission will downshift, or drop on of LOCKUP on the converter... the motor speed will increase a few hundred RMP and normally keep increasing and you push on the pedal. As the truck speed increases, within several seconds the transmission will shift back up to a higher gear or go into LOCKUP and the RPM will drop a few hundred rpm......... I really cant tell you if this is what is happening, or you think the transmission is slipping.

As you explained it, it is a Normal function done by the computer.
The reason is to unlock the converter so braking effort is reduced and not being pushed by the motor as much. (soft lock to the motor)
This is triggered by a quick throttle release and a brake application signal.
If you are on Cruise Control, this becomes doubly important CC releases and converter unlocks.
If your saying the trans is locking and unlocking multiple in this short time, that's likely a fault.
Good luck.

Thanks for your feedback. The trans seems solid as a rock, shifts great. I just didnt understand why it did that when I let all the way off the gas, it does not do it multiple times or anything, just once when you start giving it gas. I had just got the truck a few weeks ago and it seems real solid, but it does have 229xxx on it.
