I would verify the ICP sensor reading is bad before bothering that. I wasted the money on a new sensor too thinking it would make the truck run better but it made no change. There was probably nothing wrong with the original one so I wisely hung onto it. That is why I like the Edge Insight and wish I had installed it sooner. When you have the real time sensor numbers from the ICP, IPR etc right in front of your face at all times, you can easily verify if they are working right or not.

As per my normal projects, this is taking longer than it should. Turbo is rebuilt and reinstalled on blank pedestal. Easy peasey.

Up pipes are kicking my ***. Lining up the pin on the up pipe collector to the turbo flange is next to impossible. I’ll only know if I did it right when I run it. I simply can’t see back there.

Tightening the up pipe to manifold bolts resulted in one stripped bolt. How the hell does a normal sized person fit their hands in there with tools anyway? Maybe found the Achilles heel of the Dorman uppipes with cheap *** bolts? I never did find any torque specs so gave it the Armstrong approach. Probably not the best idea. Drove all over town trying to find replacement bolts. Only found them at O’Rileys. You guessed it: Dorman.

Gave up for the day. Too damn hot out and I had to shower before going on my bolt foray. Day three on this project is tomorrow.

Get a 31" black rubber bungee cord and rope it around the back of the up-pipe collector with one end hooked to the alternator pulley and the other hooked to the engine hoist point to the left of the turbo exhaust outlet. Then you can jiggle it into place and the bungee tension will hold it there. It is still tricky to get the clamp on there straight and tightened down though. Just be patient and it will happen. Don't over-tighten those exhaust clamps either or you can ruin the threads. Just use a screwdriver handle with a deep well socket on the end and snug it up. They are clamping up against steel parts so there is very little give once it is "hugging", unlike the CAC boot clamps which can squish the boots a little. Also make sure the up-pipes are loose as possible at at the manifolds (but with the nuts and bolts started). Those tighten last.

Well finished up my turbo/pedestal/up-pipe project today. Short of it was I still had a major leak. Turned out to be the HPOP fitting in the driver's side head. Fixed that and all is good now. Thanks for all the words of advice and encouragement. You folks that are good at this wrenching have all my admiration and respect. I did a post in my build maintenance thread that is in my signature block if anyone is interested in the gory details. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...de-thread.html. I spend 80% of my time on the 7.3 forum any more, but my thread is over there...

Good to hear the mission was successful and you emerged mostly unscathed.

Stick around, we like seeing other people work and be rewarded for their efforts.
