I found some older posts talking about issues with adaptive steering. Almost all were lift or larger tire related and got me a little worried. There are only a couple in stock trucks that Im interested in and they have adaptive steering. I have no intention on every lifting more than maybe 2" max and would only go up slightly on tire size. I guess what would help is to know how many have done a lift and tire upsize without any issues related to adaptive steering? It seems that on a stock truck there aren't many issues it, yet.
If were to order I would skip the option to be safe, but I haven't found a dealer quote good enough on an order.

I have 37” tires and no issues. I don’t have a lift but I do have radius arms and have had the front suspension as apart as you would for a lift and have zero issues. Disconnected both batteries as you’re supposed to before all work.

i really don’t buy any issues with adaptive cruise. I experimented a lot with it when I first got the truck doing a slalom maneuver going from 0-40mph etc and watching how the angle readout changed as I moved the wheel from 10 to 2. At higher speeds the adaptive steering is locked in. It increases the ratio at lower speeds. At higher speeds it is identical to a truck without adaptive steering.
Bad tires and alignment (primarily insufficient caster associated with a lift) I’m sure are 99% of what people blame on other things.
there are examples of people causing a fault with adaptive cruise from disassembling front suspension without disconnecting batteries... but fault-free issues impacting steering at higher speeds? DOUBT IT.
I have ADS with a Carli 4.5 lift and have had absolutely zero issues, I think the ones that have issues with either level/lift is more caster than steering
I'm interested to know what the general consensus is on adaptive steering. Any reason to avoid it when truck shopping?
I would avoid it I’ve had it on a 2019 F-350 and now on a 2020 F-450 and have had wondering problems at high speed. It’s a constant small adjustment to keep the pick from off tracking. I have a 2020 F-350 with out it and that pick track and drives great at all speeds.

I wouldn't get it for three very personal reasons that probably won't affect you in any meaningful way, bit some you asked...
1. It doesn't add any appreciable benefit to me, the only difference I like was backing up my trailer, which is maybe 0.01% of my usage. It one more expense, one more thing to break/maintain, it's just not worth it to me.
2. You can't upgrade to the Raptor steering wheel. Hands down the best thing I've done to this truck.
3. If you level or lift your truck (I've never NOT) there's a lot of guys on the FB pages that have had a lot of issues like twitchy steering, calibrations required regularly, etc.
Like I said... Pretty specific, but they're things to think about.
I agree with ya. Too much for too little. The lesser amount of expensive calibrated electronic gizmos the better for me. I don't mind turning my Raptor steering wheel one more time in a parking lot. I've driven my parents' 2018 Edge with it...and eh...it seems like a solution looking for a problem, and the auto co's found a way to capitalize on it.
Like 67_4_ME said, those of us who keep a vehicle long after the warranty period will need to keep things like this in the back of your mind...either budget for possible future maintenance if it's a feature you want, or avoid it altogether. If you trade/buy new every 2-5 years...no sweat. Obviously these kinds of choices are individualistic. I like keeping my vehicles simple. Easier/simpler to modify to my tastes, easier/simpler/cheaper to maintain, and a lower cost of ownership from purchase to sale for the same capabilities.
For those looking at a Platinum level trim, you should know that they ditched the adaptive steering as a standard feature with the 2021 models. I discovered this when my 2021 model was built cheaper than a comparable 2020 model. I had to look at the order guide to realize they removed it from the Platty as standard equipment. Just an FYI.
Have it, love it. Especially when snow plowing, backing trailer and parking. No issues at all. I'm guessing those with issues blame it on adaptive steering but it's probably something else.
