66 vent windows

Hey guys. So I decided that I’m gonna move to the cab of the truck. And first thing that needs to be fixed is the vent windows (I’ll be doing seals too later but not worried about them now). So on my drivers side, the piece that the locking handle attaches broke off long before I had it. So I need a new handle and the piece that is attached to the window bracket. Then in the other side the rod broke off the bottom so the window falls off if you open it. My question is. How hard is it to replace these two pieces on the bracket. I found them on dc and they are riveted. Does the glass need to be removed from the bracket?

Do you know what holds the glass to the frame? I have to replace the stud on the bottom of one and the piece where the handle attaches on the other. Guessing the glass has to come out to replace both or at least one of the parts. Any ways to separate the glass and frame if I have to?

The glass is adhered to the frame with "glass tape" available from any auto glass shop.

Shown as # in parts catalog pic.

Edit: Then look to the right to see what # refers to.

You may be able to pull the glass from the frame, but if not...you'll need a putty knife (preferably the plastic version).

is this easy to remove? I don’t want to break the glass or bend the frame while doing this. Any solutions I can put on it to help remove the tape?

ah got it. I’ll try that next weekend when I got time to work on it. Now to replace the tape, just get some auto glass tape and cut to length then?

Jwitty:
The tape that holds the glass to the frame, by now, has hardened and it may take some heat to soften it to the point that you can pull out the glass. Try a heat gun on the metal, not the glass. I have the right size rivets if you want to pm me your address, I will send them to you. The difficult part is setting the rivets within the narrow frame. The glass tape comes in different thickness and I can’t recall the correct one. Search here on FTE for that info. You will need to lubricate the tape, wrap it around the edge of the glass to slide the glass in. It’s tricky! Or have an auto glass shop reset the glass for you.

i think I found a guy that’ll sell a pair to me for 30 bucks with glass and frame. If I can I’ll go that way.

That is a great price and the best way to go imo, but be sure your replacements aren't rusty because it's possible that rust is the cause of your problem. And a good time to replace the rubbers too... Oh, and take note of the order and orientation of the washers and especially that travel-limiting piece.

from the pictures it looks like it still has most of their paint still on it. Class looks great too. Isn’t there a spring somewhere too that holds the window open against the wind?
