What part is this???

So I just go a used engine with low miles and hours out of a hazmat truck. I was told that some things would not be the same. Pretty sure this part is not on my original engine. Just wondering what it is.

Vacuum pump? Kinda looks reminiscent of what was on my 7.3.

That is right where the E-series put the vacuum pump.
So the guess as to it being an air pump I think is right on target.

Just out of curiosity can you give us a shot of the front please?

That is a 6.0L diesel out of an E-SERIES van. That engine can be used on your F-Series truck, but you will need to swap out some of the external E-SERIES specific parts, to your F-SERIES specific ones, to make the swap appear factory. If you have both engines out, side by side it'll be very obvious what the differences are.

Addendum: I see that this engine is equipped with dual alternators, making it all the more likely to originate from an E-SERIES ambulance package vehicle.

The F-250 and F250 don't use a vacuum pump for braking.
They use the hydroboost system that uses the power steering pump for it's power.

Your F-SERIES uses an electrical vacuum pump to supply vacuum for your HVAC and pulse vacuum hubs if equipped with with ESOF 4x4. Like already posted above, your truck is equipped with a hydroboost type brake assist, therefore no need for a vacuum supply source.

Well I sure hope it's out of an E- series hazmat van and not an ambulance. I can deal with the changing parts over I don't mind that. I am planning bon doing new head gaskets, arp head studs, egr delete, new oil cooler, new injector harness, new main engine harness. Cant do new injectors just yet but will be saving up for new ones. Is there any reason I can't keep the duel alternator setup. It's going in my utility bed work truck . Think it might be handy to have the extra power.

Man, they shouldn't be shipping that with the engine supported by the crank pulley. Hopefully most of the weight in on the tire.
