In order to pass smog inspection I have been advised to remove the ECM and inspect and clean the connections. I can find no information on how to find the computer or remove it. I found it under the heater and removed the cover. It appears to be plugged into the firewall. It does not come out readily. I do not want to damage any thing. Can anyone provide any guidance?
I literally just did mine. The bolt is right under the blower motor box, its one lonely 10mm. It's a pain to get to, but I have long arms so it wasn't too bad. I was able to finangle my arm in there with a ratchet then i ended up using an electric ratchet.
The box inside, just remove the phillips screws holding the plastic covering, pull off the second plastic cover one side at a time, then remove the 10mm bolt holding the grounding strap. Then the ECU/PCM will be able to be removed. Make sure that all of the pins come with it, one of mine ended up getting stuck and left in the connector.
I still haven't pulled the battery out to look for that screw. I got my new catalytic converter from rock Auto. California carb compliant. I am running some injector cleaner through it. I hope to clean the computer connections and take it to see if it will pass.
