I have a 2005 F-250 XL crew cab 5.4L 3v. It has electric locks and windows and they all work. The truck didn't come with a key fob, (The one that goes on your keychain) so I bought one and now I am trying to figure out how to program it. I've seen videos of people turning the key on and off to get to programming mode but my truck doesn't do it. I've also heard that you can hold the buttons on the fob and it will program that way. It didn't work either. Could anyone please give me some insight on what I need to do in order to program this key fob.
Thanks
Where did you purchase it? I was under the impression they needed a special computer to program. I used to work at a Ace hardware and we sold them but we had a hand help computer that plugged into the ODB port to program them. Now I do remember one guy telling me he did one on a late model superduty and in the center console there was a port deep inside up front that you simply plugged the fob into and it would program it. Not sure but I believe that was like a 17 or 18 model year.
I purchased it off of Ebay. The post said they come with instructions but they didn't :/ I have no idea about the programming I might have to end up calling a dealer to see if they can program it but would rather not.
Turn key on and off in ignition 8 times with the 8th time in the run position. If the locks cycle you are in programming mode. If the locks don't cycle then you don't have remote unlock feature in the truck and won't be able to program the key fob. I'm not sure if Forscan can turn it on or not. Your truck may not have a wireless receiver for the fobs.
