What size hose is needed for the radiator drain plug to run it into a bucket and how much should I expect to come out? I’m planning on just draining what’s in there and refilling with premixed from Ford. My water here is terrible and I don’t want to run that garbage through the engine. My hope is that I can keep the system clean just by doing a drain and refill at the regular service interval and not have to flush it out.
You can use any coolant that meets Ford specs such as DexCool or similar that meets or exceeds the requirements of WSS-M97B44-D, GMW 3420 (superseded GM 6277M) and ASTM D 3306.
NOTE: Less than 80% of coolant capacity can be recovered with the engine in the vehicle. Dirty, rusty or contaminated coolant requires replacement.
Place a suitable container below the radiator draincock.
Remove the pressure relief cap from the degas bottle.
Open the radiator draincock and drain the coolant into a suitable container.
Close the radiator draincock when finished.
Also, to refill if works better if you have an Airlift Cooling System Tester or similar vacuum fill setup. Might be able to "rent" one from the part houses that rent tools.
Thqnks. I’ll head to Walmart and pick up some coolant and distilled water and go from there. From the videos I’ve seen it doesn’t look like 50/50 is an exact science. More of a keep it close.
You can get a bucket and mix your 50/50 pretty accurately.
If you had a vacuum coolant fill setup, it would be simple to pull it from a 5 gallon bucket.. Not sure any of the local part houses have them for rent or sale.
I just buy the premix. It comes with deionized water which is different than distilled.
I'm not sure about the durability of these pet*****? I'd pull the lower rad hose to be safe. Pet***** are a great idea in theory but they usually work out like in the movies......ya know that valve in a submarine that hasn't been exercised in years and the handle breaks off
